This year, I have read the following major works in English class: The Old Man and the Sea, To Kill a Mockingbird, Night, and Romeo and Juliet. In addition, I have read some short selections from our To Be a Hero anthology. Of all of the major works, my favorite was To Kill a Mockingbird because it shows us the life that people lived and how racism was a major factor in it. Of the shorter works, my favorite was Hamish Mactavish is Eating a Bus because it is very humerous. In addition to the required reading discussed above, I read Fallen Angels during the summer. My favorite summer-reading book was Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers because it is about the Vietnam war and my Grandfather was in the Vietnam war. This book has nothing to do with any of the books we read this year. I also read an ORB, Army At Dusk. This book is about the war in North Africa during WWII and is very interesting. This year, we wrote more than I have before, and the piece I enjoyed working on the most was I am Fear because of the figurative language and the vocabulary used. I feel that my writing has improved vastly. I feel this way way because I feel more aware of sentence structure. Also I am using more literary devices and more complex vocabulary. My favorite project was the I Am poem. I liked this project because it challenged me to use words and concepts that I had not used before. I think that you gave us this project because it challenged us to use foreign concepts and use more complex language. Your rubrics and instruction pages were very helpful to my in the fact that I used them to write the basic form of my assignment then I added complex words and literary devices. I used schoology every night to find my assignments and to find the instructions to my assignments.
My overall eighth grade experience was very fun and interesting. I feel this class prepared me for everything that I will have to do in freshman english. Also I want to thank you for helping me improve my writing and sentence structure and for being an awesome teacher.
Commentary: Eight grade has been my favorite year so far. This class helped me prepare for high school.
